This article examines the role of cultural realities in the translation process and the importance of adequately conveying denotative and connotative meanings. The author analyzes, through French and Uzbek folk tales and narratives, the need to ensure not only linguistic equivalence, but also intercultural compatibility. Adequate translation is thus presented as a cultural conversion, where fidelity to meaning is not limited to words, but extends to the symbolic and cultural dimension of the text. Denotative meaning expresses the primary meaning of a unit, while connotative meaning refers to its cultural, emotional, and historical significance. The study emphasizes that semantic coherence, the search for connotative equivalents, and the preservation of the narrative concept are essential to maintaining the cultural identity of the translated text. Through examples of French and Uzbek narratives, the author demonstrates that translation is above all an act of cultural interpretation, requiring intercultural competence, psycholinguistic sensitivity, and in-depth conceptual understanding.
