GENETIC DIVERSITY AND BREEDING IN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
Keywords:
Genetic diversity, fruit and vegetable breeding, crop breedingAbstract
Genetic diversity plays a crucial role in the breeding and development of fruits and vegetables, contributing to crop resilience, yield stability, and disease resistance. Breeding programs that focus on genetic variability help to develop varieties that can withstand environmental stresses such as drought, heat, and pests. Advances in molecular breeding techniques, including genome sequencing and CRISPR technology, enable more precise selection of desirable traits in crops. By utilizing both traditional and modern breeding methods, it is possible to enhance the nutritional quality, shelf life, and marketability of fruits and vegetables. Genetic diversity is also essential for maintaining ecosystem health and supporting sustainable agricultural practices, ensuring that future generations can benefit from diverse and productive crop varieties
