Abstract

Disease prevention remains one of the most important strategic directions of modern medicine, because the global burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases continues to increase despite remarkable progress in diagnostics, pharmacotherapy, vaccination, surgery, and digital health technologies. The concept of prevention in medicine is no longer limited to vaccination or early screening; it now includes a broad system of primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary interventions aimed at reducing risk exposure, detecting disease at an early stage, preventing complications, and avoiding unnecessary medical harm. This article provides a comprehensive academic analysis of the general understanding of disease prevention in medicine, with special attention to epidemiological relevance, public health priorities, evidence-based interventions, primary health care, digital health, artificial intelligence, and real-world evidence. The article is based on a structured review of recent scientific literature, including reports and studies from the World Health Organization, PubMed-indexed journals, CDC, NIH, Cochrane Library, The Lancet, BMJ, Nature Medicine, New England Journal of Medicine, and health system data relevant to Uzbekistan. The methodological framework also proposes a model cross-sectional design for assessing population awareness and preventive behavior among adults in primary health care settings. The analysis shows that preventive medicine has high clinical, economic, and social value, particularly in reducing premature mortality from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, and antimicrobial resistance. The findings emphasize that effective prevention requires integration of individual behavior change, population-level policy, early screening, immunization, risk stratification, digital monitoring, and continuous health education. Strengthening disease prevention in low- and middle-income countries, including Uzbekistan, is essential for improving life expectancy, reducing avoidable morbidity, and ensuring the sustainability of health systems.
