Abstract

This study examines the multifaceted roles of proper nouns in literature through lexical, semantic, and pragmatic lenses, challenging traditional boundaries between these linguistic domains. Analyzing works such as George Orwell’s Animal Farm and the Uzbek folktale Susambil, the paper demonstrates how proper nouns transcend mere referentiality to acquire layered meanings shaped by narrative context, cultural resonance, and authorial intent.  The study critiques the conventional semantics-pragmatics dichotomy, advocating instead for a dynamic model that accommodates the fluid interplay of literal and non-literal meaning in literary onomastics. Findings underscore the necessity of integrating linguistic theory with literary analysis to fully capture the complexity of proper noun usage in narrative art.
